- Improve jumping with exercises like sprints and jump rope. Practice two-footed and one-footed jumps for height.
Offensive Fakes and Cuts
- Use misdirections (jab, head, shoulder fakes) to create space or open a lane.
- Jab Step: Used on the perimeter for driving or shot setup.
- Split-Step: Start a dribble-drive without pausing.
Defensive Skills
- Stance: Weight on the balls of feet, knees bent, arms out.
- Footwork: Move in slides (step, then slide opposite foot). Avoid crossing feet and reaching in.
Drills
- Footfire Drill: Quick, stationary steps, followed by directional slides.
- Close-out Drill: Approach the ball-handler with short, choppy steps to slow momentum and force baseline direction.
